Maricopa Community Theatre
“Chicago” is a musical set in the roaring twenties, centered around two rival vaudevillian murderesses, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, who are both locked up in the Cook County Jail awaiting trial. The story explores their manipulation of the media and justice system to gain fame and escape punishment, all while showcasing the corruption and sensationalism of the criminal justice system and celebrity culture. With catchy songs and dazzling choreography, “Chicago” satirically examines themes of fame, greed, and the blurred lines between innocence and guilt.
