About the Show

Sometimes the best way to face life’s challenges is with a little laughter.

Based on Mel Brooks’ beloved comedy, Young Frankenstein is a hilarious musical adventure filled with eccentric characters, larger-than-life personalities, and plenty of unexpected surprises. When Dr. Frederick Frankenstein inherits his grandfather’s estate, he finds himself pulled into a world of mad science, unlikely friendships, and discoveries that challenge everything he thought he knew.

Beneath the laughs and lightning bolts is a story about acceptance, connection, and finding joy in the unexpected. As these characters learn to embrace what makes them different, we’re reminded that laughter has a unique way of bringing people together, and that sometimes the best medicine is simply sharing a smile.

What to Prepare

Prepare approximately 32 bars (about 1–2 minutes) of a comedic musical theatre song and a 1–2 minute comedic monologue. We encourage auditionees to choose material that showcases not only their vocal and acting abilities, but also their personality and sense of humor.

Comedy is at the heart of Young Frankenstein, so strong comedic timing, physicality, and a willingness to make bold character choices will be important for performers at every level of the production. Whether you’re auditioning for a principal role or ensemble, we’re looking for actors who can fully commit to the fun, energy, and heart of the story.

Most importantly, come ready to play, laugh, and bring your unique talents into the room.

Character Breakdown

Please note: Vocal ranges are provided as a general guide and may vary slightly by edition or production. We encourage performers not to eliminate themselves based on range alone. We’re looking for great storytellers, strong character choices, and performers who are ready to have fun.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein

Frederick’s enthusiastic laboratory assistant. Bright, optimistic, confident, and unabashedly herself, Inga approaches every situation with excitement and curiosity.

Looking for: Strong singer with comedic charm and confidence. *Yodeling skills are a plus!

Frau Blücher

Gender: Female

The intimidating housekeeper of Frankenstein Manor. Mysterious, dramatic, and fiercely devoted to the Frankenstein legacy. Commands attention whenever she enters a room.

Elizabeth Benning

Gender: Female
Vocal Range: Soprano (A3–F5)

The Monster

Gender: Male
